The National Library of Ireland (NLI) has today (07.03.2023) launched a new and entirely redesigned website www.nli.ie. With more than one million page views per year, our website is the primary means by which the public can access information about the NLI. The new website now features more ways of inspiring people and revealing all the National Library has to offer.

Our new website reflects a long-term effort to improve the look, feel, and navigational aspects of the website, with a special emphasis on ensuring that it is not only easy to navigate for all users but is also visually appealing. New features and information will be added on a continuing basis.

What’s new?

Bilingual presentation: In line with the Irish Official Languages Act 2003, the website is fully bilingual. All updates will be translated on a routine basis.

Accessibility: The website allows users easy access, regardless of age or ability. It complies with the Website Content Accessibility guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, which are mandatory for the public sector.

Mobile responsiveness: In order to better cater to the needs and wishes of our visitors, the website is fully tailored to browsing on desktop and mobile devices.

Events calendar: The online calendar of NLI Exhibitions and Events provides a clear and easily navigated events calendar, allowing users to search by facets such as date, type of event, type of audience, time, venue etc.

Homepage: The homepage allows visitors direct access to all sections of the site and the NLI’s catalogue as well as short highlights of what is going on in the NLI.

News and Stories: The short, engaging news reminiscent of our features on Instagram and Facebook will keep visitors up to date on news items relating to the NLI. Stories are longer form more evergreen content and will contain blogs, vlogs, and videos from NLI staff and subject experts.

Educational resources: The new Learn section provides access to information on the NLI’s educational resources and exhibitions for use by teachers, students, and the public.

Support the NLI: Contributions to the NLI may now be made online with a credit card.

We have designed and developed the new website in cooperation with digital agency Annertech and creative agency Big-O.
