Woman using mobile to view Instagram

If you follow the National Library of Ireland on social media, you can expect content covering some or all of the following:

  • Information about our collections and services.
  • Information about events taking place at the NLI.
  • Occasional tweets about external events / initiatives that we feel may be of interest to our followers.
  • Alerts about new content on our website.
  • Other practical information on the work of the NLI.

We monitor the NLI social media during normal working hours (Monday to Friday), and endeavour to respond to any queries from users within 24 hours. However, we may not be able to reply individually to all the messages and comments we receive. The best means of communicating a query to the National Library of Ireland is by emailing info@nli.ie

Occasionally, we may share historical materials from our collection on social media that reflect the language, perspective, or subject matter of their time. Some of these materials may include outdated or offensive terminology or address challenging topics. These posts do not represent endorsements by the National Library of Ireland. We strive to contextualise the content we share on social media.

Retweets are not endorsements; if we retweet something, it is because we feel it is of potential interest to our followers.

Facebook, Instagram and Twitter may occasionally be unavailable and we accept no responsibility for lack of service due to downtime.

Online Engagement

The National Library offers a range of online events. The content of these events, including any interpretation or other features which are part of the event, is described in the event information.

Any behaviours or interaction during these events, via any medium, deemed by the NLI to be inappropriate or offensive, will not be tolerated. Audience members engaging in inappropriate or offensive behaviour or interactions can be removed from any event at the NLI’s discretion, at any time, and their interactions deleted.

Repeated instances of such behaviour or interactions may result in the permanent withdrawal of access to the NLI’s online events, at the discretion of the NLI.
