Three NLI Designs Included in 100 Archive Selection 2023

The Archive celebrates the best of Irish design

The National Library was delighted to have three of its designs included in the 100 Archive Selection 2023.

The 100 Archive, established in 2012 by Ireland's communication design community, is a platform for showcasing design excellence. Each year, they curate 100 notable projects that represent the expanding field of communication design—encompassing graphic, editorial, type, brand, digital, and motion design. These projects cover everything from local club flyers to global corporate rebrands, and from small business identities to impactful social advocacy campaigns.

Last week, the 100 Archive selection for 2023 was launched at Etsy Headquarters in Dublin. The National Library of Ireland (NLI) had three projects by its in-house designer, Emma Conway, selected for inclusion. Her featured works include the identities for 'Late at the Library', 'People and Places', and 'Yeats 100'.

Emma Conway, the NLI's in-house designer, said:

"When a chance to branch out and create a more ephemeral design arises, I seize it to craft something new and exciting, aiming to catch the eye of potential new visitors to the Library."

NLI Web Archive X 100 Archive

In 2018, NLI began digitally preserving websites selected by the 100 Archive through the NLI's Web Archive. While the 100 Archive employs a unique method for selecting and showcasing Irish graphic design work, creating a rich online record of our community, it is with the NLI's assistance that the 100 Archive is taking steps towards properly preserving digital-born design work so that it’s publicly available for the future.

Joanna Finnegan from the NLI's Digital Collections team points out that:
