In Person

Go beyond the bonnets of Austen and peer behind Shaw’s impressive beard to explore their engagement with contemporary and historical Ireland

As part of our Homes of Literary & Visual Giants series, the Director of Jane Austen’s House Lizzie Dunford will explore the links to Ireland and Irish history in both the life and works of Jane Austen and in the home of playwright George Bernard Shaw in this illustrated talk.

Having cared for and shared the stories of the homes of both authors, Lizzie will take us beyond the bonnets of Austen and peer behind Shaw’s impressive beard to explore their engagement with contemporary and historical Ireland, as well as the correlation between these writers, their homes and the myths of nationhood
